Why we have slowed, and why that means we are actually growing.

As i’m sitting down to write this, i’m struggling with myself. Asking all sorts of questions. “Will it come across as unprofessional?”, “Does putting it into words really matter?”, “Is it even worth it to say something as opposed to just be silent?”, “Why can’t we just say fuck it!? No posts for today lol.”

All of these questions are things I as director have come to learn are important, and as they are important, it follows they are not resolvable by me as an individual.

The Karlovian is a team endeavor, and as a team we (Not I) have decided. It’s best to address the issue of our lack of content over these past two weeks, its virtuous even to admit some error. So let us get to those errors, and of course the solutions.

The issue of what, and how much to post on this platform is a complex one, with a staff of roughly 12 individuals, all of whom are full-time students, and all of whom work diligently academically, and professionally. A 3 full article-a-week goal may be too much, and that’s not even to mention creating two infographics a week on top. The workload is one that is certainly achievable with an unwavering commitment and plenty of spare time, yet it is unacceptable for us to demand such from each other. Life matters, work matters and school matters, friends matter, so going forward we at the paper are making a commitment to both this project, but also ourselves. We will honor this commitment by working to achieve a more reliable posting schedule, one that focuses on doing good, well-thought-out journalism.

Which we all know takes time.

In order to give the team the time it needs to grow, I as director have put the tasks of publishing, editing, and tracking down stories to my beautifully talented administrative team. So please allow me to introduce them.

Noemi Skovierova has been for a long time the editor for the current events section. She has shown immense competence when it comes to writing and has really put in the extra mile when it comes to managing her section. So I am more than happy to put the section fully into her hands going forward.

Jane Kastner has proven an immense passion for the arts and entertainment. Her stories ring with a tone that is from a place that only someone as deeply embedded in the art world as she can grasp. I am confident the culture section will be able to grow with that same tone with her at the helm.

Jalv, a talented academic, has more experience in the world of academia than any of us combined. While their section is the slowest growing, they have been an invaluable asset when it comes to collaborative decision-making. Needless to say, I know Academic(ish) is in good hands with them at the steering wheel.

Tom Roberts, who is an incredibly hardworking and busy man has taken out many hours of his free time to track me down to borderline demand control of the social media channels. This is an ideal sign from an aspiring social media coordinator and a great trait in a leader. Therefore, I am happy to say our Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn will be in his control going forward.

Now that the new responsibilities and positions are announced, we are asking a favor of you. Keep reading, keep submitting, and keep your faith in us. As the section heads and social media team take on more responsibility they will need time to grow into their role, so be patient with us. In turn, we promise not the disappoint with content, partnerships, and improved designs, all of which are coming in the near future.

Therefore, in place of an article, this ramble will be posted tomorrow. Friday the 17th of March, but it will not be empty, and it will not be filler, it contains a glimpse of our struggle forward.

So in conclusion, thank you on behalf of all of us. Thank you to our readers, writers, and admin team, because without you all, this project would have been nothing but a dream.
