The Ultimate Guide to Christmas Gifts

Christmas season is finally here and so is time to start thinking about gifts. Whether you’re shopping for friends, family, or yourself, here’s your all-encompassing guide to finding the perfect presents for your loved ones these holidays. I’ve included links to example products that can be ordered online.

For book lovers:

  1. Books (obviously) – some readers can be very specific, be careful not to get them a book they already have or a genre they aren’t interested in. You can never go wrong with a book store gift card.
  2. A book light – infinitely useful for night time readers and not too expensive.
  3. Weighted blanket – perfect for someone who spends a lot of time indoors relaxing with a book.
  4. Candles – to add to the ambiance. Just like there’s no such thing as too many books, there’s no such thing as too many candles.
  5. Cool bookmark – lots of bookworms tend to perpetually lose their bookmarks, so get them a funny one they won’t forget. Look on shops like Etsy for funny options.
  6. Custom bookplate stamp – a bit pricier depending on where you get it from but very worth it. You can customize it with their name and initials so they can leave a scholarly mark on their book collection.

For foodies and home cooks (uni student edition):

  1. Rice cooker – what do college students want? Cheap meals. What’s cheap? Rice. A rice cooker can be gotten for as little as 400 czk (about 17 euros) and makes cooking rice infinitely easier (plus it can do much more than just cook rice.)
  2. Tabletop oven – many uni students don’t have ovens which can be really inconvenient for cooking at home; countertop ovens can be pricey but are a worthwhile investment if you want to example more of your cooking
  3. Sushi-making kit – lots of fun to make by yourself or with friends and has a delicious outcome
  4. Cookbooks – one of the best ways to expand your cooking abilities is to use cookbooks, just go to any bookstore and have a good look through the food section for a book on their favourite cuisine. (Pro tip: if they have a favourite cooking channel on YouTube, check if they have a cookbook.)
  5. Tear-free onion goggles – this is a bit more of a gag gift but useful nonetheless. These goggles protect your eyes from the compounds released when cutting onions that make you tear up.

For coffee lovers:

  1. Cool mugs – a staple for every coffee and tea drinker (there’s no such thing as too many mugs.)
  2. Coffee-themed artwork – Etsy is a great place to look. A personal favourite of mine is this artwork from Pop Chart.
  3. Cute coffee and sugar containers – to keep coffee beans fresh, they need to be stored in an air-tight container, somewhere cool and dry.
  4. A portable mug – makes all the difference when you’re a coffee fanatic who’s always on the go. A good travel mug will keep your coffee warm for hours while you’re out of the house. Plus being able to make your coffee at home and bring it out with you saves a lot of money.
  5. Milk frother – this is a game changer when it comes to making coffee at home; a handheld milk frother is much cheaper than going all out on an espresso machine and helps elevate your coffee to café level.

For movie buffs:

  1. Top 100 films scratch-off poster – not only helps you keep track of your movie bucket list, it also serves as a pretty poster once you’ve gone through all the movies. You can also find anime, TV show and book editions of this poster.
  2. Portable LED mini projector – makes for really cool movie nights. With UBS and HDMI ports you can plug in media from phones, tablets, laptops or traditional cable boxes to give your next movie marathon a big screen upgrade in 1080p.
  3. Microwavable single-serve popcorn maker set – popcorn is a must when watching movies and these single-serve silicon cups make it easy and instant.
  4. Books and card games – there’s a plethora of readily available gifts that can help your movie buff friend increase their movie knowledge. From cinephile trivia card games to Alfred Hitchcock: The Ultimate Collection, check out your local bookstore to see what they have to offer.

I hope that even if you didn’t get any of these gifts, they at least inspired you and gave you some ideas of how to treat your loved ones this Christmas. Have a Merry Christmas!
