UK kings won the final game of the ice hockey series beating ČVUT engineers by 4-2 after being down by 1-2. The final match was preceded with the third place match between VŠE Falcons and ČZU Farmers where the former beat the latter by 4-2. Both games included little games in between the matches, cheerleading and a concert by Annet x. The goals of the Charles University were scored by Daniel Piskač, Martin Willmann (2 times in a row!) and Jan Škoda while the Czech Technical University’s goals were scored by František Januška and Vojtěch Matějka. Keep reading for more details!

Charles’ representatives had prepared headbands in the shape of crowns with “Univerzita Karlova” written on them for every spectator. They were placed on the seats, as well as banners in red supporting the university in Czech. Some cheerleaders and one dressed in a king costume as well as drum players led the ovation. We, the hundreds of people, shouted out “KARLOVKA” as the main cheer. Visibly, Charles University had the most audience and preparation and of course the best team!

Rector Milena Králíčková showed up before the kick off with the rector of Czech Technical University and brought the glorious trophy cup together, which we took home later on! As red is the colour of Charles University, everyone was asked to dress in red beforehand. Many people did, and viewed from above we were shining like a big red community.

A big poster written “Vítejte, Králové” (English: Welcome, Kings) was hung in the entrance. Some stands of Charles University Erasmus Community, merch of the university, and some other big Czech Companies were also present. Some snacks and gifts were allocated during the breaks as well. A university level sport competition was carried out in such a professional way that it was hard to tell if it was a derby between Sparta Praha and Slavia Praha!
Although being on the winning side is an awesome thing, I believe the unifying effect of the sport is more significant. Bearing in mind there was not a single empty seat, cheering all together with people you have no connection to other than studying under the same university name was fantastic.
By virtue of this article, I would like to congratulate Univerzita Karlova Kings once again. Karlovka!
